Oryx and Crake Reserves

I have set up a reserve shelf for all the English instructors for Oryx and Crake items. Interested instructors can collect LRC materials they wish to place on reserve and drop them off at the Borrower services desk anytime after Jan 12, indicating to staff that the items are for the Oryx and Crake reserves. They won’t need to fill out any paperwork or contact me. I’ve set up the reserve as 4 hour / 1 item per student, and it will last until the end of April.

New Databases in the LRC

We’ve welcomed in the new year with a substantial new set of resources! The Lois Hole Campus Alberta Digital Library (LHCADL) project has negotiated the licenses to a huge number of databases on behalf of Alberta’s post-secondary institutions. For more information about the LHCADL you can visit their webpage. Resources funded through this initiative will be identified by the LHCADL logo next to the listing on our website.

Some new databases relevant to the English Department will be available shortly. These include:

Literature Resource Center (Thompson Gale)

An interdisciplinary approach to literature which includes journals, essays, links to websites, biographies, author portraits, and definitions of literary terms from a global perspective.

This database includes full text articles from over 280 journals, 70,000 critical essays, 7000 work overviews, 5000 links to authoritative websites, 140,000 author biographies, 3000 author portraits and 10,000 definitions of literary terms.

Shakespeare Collection (Thompson Gale)

Comprehensive, cross-searchable coverage of Shakespeare’s work, critical reception, textual history, performance history and cultural and historical context.

The Shakespeare Collection includes the complete Arden Shakespeare (texts, notes, introductions and commentaries), and additional primary sources, historical editions, and contemporary criticism.

Bibliography of Native North Americans

(BNNA) is a bibliographic database covering all aspects of native North American culture, history, and life. This resource covers a wide range of topics including archaeology, multicultural relations, gaming, governance, legend, and literacy.

BNNA contains more than 80,000 citations for books, essays, journal articles, and government documents of the United States and Canada.
